Dr. Ken Murray

Focus: Plastic Surgery Dr. Murray is the current Medical Director and is a founding member of the Western Surgery Centre. Having received his medical training at the University of Dalhousie and Western Ontario, Dr. Murray did additional fellowship training at the University of Western Ontario and Southern Illinois University. Currently a Professor of Surgery in Cosmetic and Plastic Surgery and certified in both Canada and the United States, Dr. Murray has been active in many national and international societies, including President of the Canadian Society of Plastic Surgery.

Dr. Gur Balbir Singh

Focus: Plastic Surgery Dr. Singh is a founding member and current President of the Western Surgery Centre. Currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery (Section of Plastic Surgery) at the University of Manitoba, Dr. Singh has served as Director of the Canadian Society of Plastic Surgeons and as a member of both the Executive Committee of the Department of Surgery at St. Boniface General Hospital and the Plastic Surgery Specialty Committee of the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada. Dr. Singh is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Singh is also a member of both the Canadian and American Societies for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.

Dr. Carla Cohn

Focus: Dentistry Dr. Cohn graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1991. She then went on to complete a post-graduate internship in Paediatric Dentistry. In addition to private practice, she is a clinical instructor, part-time, in Paediatric Dentistry at the University of Manitoba. Dr. Cohn lectures internationally on prevention and Paediatric Dentistry for the general dentist.

Dr. Cory Sul

Focus: Dentistry Dr. Sul graduated from the University of Manitoba Faculty of Dentistry and completed a residency program at the Royal University Hospital. Having served on the board of the Canadian Dental Association, Dr. Sul was a founding board member of the U of Manitoba Dental Alumni Association and will serve as president of the Winnipeg Dental Society in 2012. He has been awarded the Certificate of Merit from both the MDA and CDA. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the art and science of the dental profession, Dr Sul was elected for fellowship into the Pierre Fauchard Academy, an international honorary dental society.

Dr. Brian Gillespie

Focus: Ophthalmology Dr. Gillespie an Assistant Professor in the Department of Ophthamology at the University of Manitoba. After completing his Residency in Ophthamology, (Long Island Jewish 1987;
 Completed Fellowship in Manhattan Eye & Ear 1989), Dr. Gillespie began his ophthalmology practice in Winnipeg in 1989. He has seen over 25,000 patients since beginning his private practice and has performed over 12,000 cataract surgeries.

Dr. Davinder Rehsia

Focus: Ophthalmology Dr. Rehsia has been practicing comprehensive Ophthalmology in Winnipeg for the last thirty years. He completed his Ophthalmology training from the University of Manitoba and is board certified in United States as well as in Canada. He is fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and is a member of the Canadian Society of Ophthalmology. The focus of his practice has been in the areas of Glaucoma, Cataract and Refractive Surgery, however, currently he is dedicating his practice primarily to Cataract Surgery. He is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Manitoba. He has vast experience in Cataract Surgery having performed over 20,000 procedures.

Dr. Antonio Canosa

Focus: Oral Surgery Dr. Canosa graduated form the University of Manitoba, Faculty of Dentistry in 1995 (D.M.D Honours). From 1995-97, Dr. Canosa interned in the Hospital Dental Internship Program, Faculty of Medicine, at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg before entering into the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Program at the University of Manitoba in 1997. He received his Masters Degree in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and since his graduation, Dr. Canosa has been an Assistant and now Associate Professor in the Department of Dental Diagnostic and Surgical Sciences, at the University of Manitoba. Dr. Canosa is a member of the Manitoba Dental Association, Canadian Dental Association, Manitoba Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and the Canadian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial

Dr. Jay Guan

Focus: Oral Surgery After completing his medical training at Shanghai Medical University (1992) and a PhD in Physiology at the University of Western Ontario (1998), Dr. Guan graduated from University of Manitoba School of Dentistry in 2002. In addition to private practice, Dr. Guan has been an Assistant Professor at the University of Manitoba since he completed the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgical Program (2006) and he is the current President of the Manitoba Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.

Dr. Andrew Stoykewych

Focus: Oral Surgery Dr. Stoykewych completed his predental, dental and specialty training at the University of Manitoba. Since 1986 he has been on the staff of the Department of Surgery at the Health Sciences Centre and the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Manitoba. For the past 18 years Dr. Stoykewych was the head of the undergraduate oral and maxillary surgery program at the University of Manitoba. In addition to dentoalveolar surgery his surgical interests include implantology, orthognathic surgery and the management of traumatic injuries of the facial skeleton.

Dr. Cindy Baron, MD, FRCPC, Anesthetist

Focus: Physician Dr. Baron is a University of Manitoba Medical School graduate. She completed her Anesthesia Residency at the University of Manitoba and became a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in 1994. Appointed as an Assistant Professor at the University of Manitoba Department of Anesthesia, Dr. Baron is currently on staff at the Health Sciences Centre and at Victoria Hospital and is active in teaching both medical students and anesthesia residents. Dr. Baron’s special interests are Obstetrical Anesthesia and Ambulatory Anesthesia. Dr. Baron has served as both the HSC Medical Manager of Obstetrical Anesthesia (2005-10) and the WRHA/U of Manitoba Section Head of Obstetrical Anesthesia (2007-10).  Dr. Baron is a member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, Canadian Anesthesiologists’ Society and the American Society of Anesthesiologists.

Dr. Adrian Hawaleshka , MD, FRCPC, Anesthetist

Focus: Physician After completing his medical training and Anesthesia residency at the University of Manitoba, Dr. Hawaleshka was appointed an Assistant Professor at the University of Manitoba (Section of Anesthesia). On staff at the Health Sciences Centre since 1999, Dr. Hawaleshka has varied his practice by participating in medical missions to Bolivia, serving as the Head of Anesthesia in The Pas, MB (2003-08) and as the Medical Director for WRHA Patient Transport (2008-present). Active in teaching medical students and Anesthesia residents, Dr. Hawaleshka has a particular interest in Airway Management, Ambulatory Anesthesia and the effects of anesthesia on ‘consciousness’.  He is a member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and the Canadian Anesthesiologists’ Society.

Dr. Doug Maguire, MD, FRCPC, Anesthetist

Focus: Physician Dr. Maguire completed his science degree and undergraduate medical training at University of Manitoba and continued at U of M with specialty training in Anesthesiology. He has been on the U of M faculty since 1990, currently as Associate Professor working at Health Science Centre, St. Boniface Cardiac Sciences, Pan Am Clinic and Western Surgical Centre. He has been a trustee on the Canadian Anesthesia Societies’ International Education Foundation for more than 10 years and volunteered with International programs in Nepal, Rwanda, Haiti, Nicaragua and many others. He has been awarded Anesthesia Teacher of the Year three times and remains active in all areas of anesthesia. Clinical interests include pre-op clinic, anesthesia for cardiac surgery and echocardiography.

Dr. Ken Ringaert, MD, FRCPC, Anesthetist

Focus: Physician Dr. Ringaert is a University of Manitoba Medical School graduate. He completed his Anesthesia Residency at the University of Manitoba and became a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in 1986. He joined the Winnipeg Health Sciences Centre Department of Anesthesia  and is currently on staff. Dr. Ringaert is an Associate Professor at the University of Manitoba (Section of Anesthesia) and is active in teaching both medical students and residents at the U. of M. His special interests are in Neuroanesthesia and  Ambulatory Anesthesia. Dr. Ringaert is an active member in the Society of Neuroanesthesia and Critical Care and the Society of Ambulatory Anesthesia.

Dr. Ron Segstro, MD, FRCPC, Anesthetist

Focus: Physician Dr. Ron Segstro has been practising anesthesia in Winnipeg since 1992. He graduated from the University of Manitoba with degrees in Physics and Medicine. His anesthesia residency training took place both at the University of Manitoba and the University of Western Ontario. He is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesia at the University of Manitoba and has had a number of publications in the fields of basic science and clinical anesthesia. Dr. Segstro was the co-Head of Anesthesia at Seven Oaks General Hospital (2005-2007) and has been chair of the Anesthesia Equipment Committee at both Seven Oaks Hospital and the Heralth Sciences Centre (1997-2007). He holds membership in the Canadian Anesthesiologists’ Society, The American Society of Anesthesiology and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Dr. Segstro’s anesthesia career has taken him as far as Haiti, where he worked in medical missions serving adults and children. He has a special interest in obstetric and ambulatory anesthesia, as well as anesthesia for children.
