FAQ – General Prep

In this episode, Dr. Murray explains some of the other things you need to do before you come in for your procedure.

In order to minimize bruising, what we frequently tell people is to not to take any aspirin or oral anti-inflammatories or most herbal teas and medications, because they can thin the blood and increase bruising. So, we like people to stop that for about two weeks before any surgery. If people smoke, that can affect wound healing very significantly, so they need to stop smoking for at least three weeks after their surgery. We would prefer that people stop smoking just because that’s a healthy thing to do. The day of surgery, people shouldn’t have anything to eat or drink for at least six hours before their operative time in order to ensure there are few anesthetic complications at the time of their surgery. Please leave your comments or questions below. We’d be happy to help you on your journey through plastic surgery at the Western Surgery Center.
