Male Breast Reduction

male breast reduction

Men occasionally suffer from gynecomastia, a condition that leaves them with excessive amounts of breast tissue. Genetic predisposition, certain therapeutic drugs, or the use of anabolic steroids/grown hormones may play a role, but there is no determinable cause.

Gynecomastia surgery removes excess fat and glandular tissue from the male breasts resulting in a chest that is flatter and firmer. The procedure takes around one hour to complete. We perform this procedure with a general anesthetic.

How It’s Done

Our plastic surgeons make a well-camouflaged incision along the edge of the areola. Working through this incision, the surgeon cuts away the excess fat and glandular tissue. They then remove all excess tissue through liposuction.

Am I A Candidate?

If you are in good general health and have specific but realistic goals for the improvement of your appearance, there is no defined age limit for this procedure.

What To Expect

This is an outpatient procedure, meaning patients can return home the same day. Most patients experience minimal discomfort, experience some bruising and swelling after surgery, and feel numbness around the areola. Patients are usually back to work in 3 to 4 days.

We provide detailed preoperative and postoperative instructions at Western Surgery Centre.
